Fungus Among Us

According to Michele, she has polypores growing on an old tree stump in her backyard. To the chemist, it's a neat looking relatively flat mushroom in a partially shaded area. Here is a little article about them. Here are a couple of the shots I added to the garden set.

The polypore shots are fun. Enjoyed the referenced article also. I have eaten 'Chicken of the Woods' sauted in butter-- very tasty. (Of course one could saute most anything in butter and it would taste good.)

Hmmmmm....I'm not sure you could put enough butter on that for me. I'd never make it on an eating challenge like you see on Survivor, Fear Factor, or the Amazing Race.

I don't think the polypores in my garden/your pictures are 'Chicken of the Woods'. I was reminded of Chicken of the Woods by the article you referenced. It is a bright yellow, fleshy polypore that grows on tree trunks. If you saw one in its fresh state you might be tempted.
